How the donations are used

  • A few examples about how the funds are used in the programs are best to describe our policy and the proven impact
  • Viêt Nam Plus is very strict about limiting overhead expenses:
    • the expenses in Europe are kept below 5%; only unpaid but experienced and capable volunteers run the organization
    • the programs are all low cost so that the funds could reach the largest number of beneficiaries. We also want to keep a profile very close to the villagers and beneficiaries.

How the donations are multiplied

Donations are in fact multiplied many times thanks to the combination of 2 factors:

  • Donations are multiplied thanks to matching grants, on the average by a factor 4. Institutional sources in Europe provide grants which are function of the private donations collected by the organization; this is not the case for other sources in Vietnam like embassies etc.
  • Institutional sources put all sort of restrictions on the use of the funds, and their priorities vary a great deal: this often collides with the priorities in the field. For instance one such funder would put a priority for training savings-credit groups, while at the same time refuse to provide capital for the loans. Private donations, by contributing to the capital for loans, thus fill the gap, and transform the program into a success.
  • The programs are patient development work but have a huge long-term impact: sometimes 20 or 30 times bigger than the funds provided. Sometimes, on the contrary, the impact cannot be quantified -for instance the income of the household has hardly increased, but the youngest child does not drop out from school!
Examples of this snow-balling effect are many.

Tax deduction

You pay taxes? Tax deduction allows you to multiply your donation: the amount received is bigger than what is costs you!

  • In France: every donation, whatever the amount, entitles you to a 60% deduction -within the limit of 20% of your taxable income. A certificate will be sent to you before the end of the year (Act 2005-32, January 18th, 2005, article 127).
  • In Belgium: every donation above 30 € will entitle you to a tax deduction; a certificate will be sent to you at the beginning of the following fiscal year. Of course, if you wish to receive a certificate for donations of less than 30 €, it will be mailed upon request.
  • In Vietnam: a receipt is mailed for every donation.
