Multiplication of the programs PDF Print E-mail

giao_en.jpgAt the beginning, Vietnam Plus only had only one small project, Tiên Thành. But little by little the project number increased, the local team in Vietnam enlarged: it accounts today more than 110 people and leads 4 large programs.

In 1995, Bernard Kervyn was invited by the Dr Duong Quynh Hoa and Oxfam-Belgium to bring with the team of Vietnam Plus his support to the development of a micro-credit program in Tuc Trung (Dinh Quan). Then it spread to the neighboring district, in Dúc Linh. And then again further, in Tánh Linh. In 2000 it has been necessary to withdraw from Dinh Quán (conflicts with some local authorities). End 2001, Vietnam Plus also started in the delta of the Mekong and today works in Hâu Giang. Overall, our programs impact more than 150.000 people every year!

Little by little, some activities were interrupted, due to a lack of impact: the literacy for example. But new ones were added, like the theater, the peasant groups... At the start, the programs were more expensive. Today, thanks to the involvement of people and the team's experience, we make a lot more with less. Several activities are quite viable and we decrease our support.

Docteur Duong Quynh Hoa, with a great experience and the projects that she put in place, had a big influence on Vietnam Plus. Director of the Pediatrics Development Center and Health in HCMV(CPDS)  until 1999, she was a key person for a number of NGOs. She received the title of doctor honoris causa in Paris (twice) and in Belgium (UCL, 1997). (More on Doctor Hoa's contribution).
